SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE

Shadows of the Empire is a book that takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. This book covers Luke’s Jedi training and the search for Han Solo (who’s in the hands of Boba Fett).

This book also introduces a couple of memorable characters…

Prince Xizor

Prince Xizor is a Falleen Prince who openly praises the Empire and his association with it. He is one of the most influential beings in the Empire; third to Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. However, unbeknownst to most is that Prince Xizor is the leader of the fearsome Black Sun organization. An organization who seeks to replace both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader as rulers of the galaxy.

Prince Xizor is the ruler of the most powerful criminal organization in the galaxy. He is extremely ambitious and ruthless. Xizor is reptilian, with green skin and purple eyes. He has the ability to hold his breathe underwater for 12 hours. Xizor is also over a century old.

Guri

Guri is Prince Xizor’s lieutenant and chief enforcer. She is a lethal assassin capable of killing without remorse.

Guri is a deadly human replica droid (very rare technology). Her outside appearance is flawlessly human, she can eat and drink and perform any function that a human can. She has synthetic muscles that give her tremendous strength. Her eyes and ears record everything that goes on around her.

Dash Rendar

Dash Rendar is a Corellian smuggler who is friends with both Han Solo and Lando Calrissian. Dash did have a chance to join the Rebellion, but instead chose to continue as a freelance smuggler for hire. One of Dash’s most talked about characteristics is his ego!

Dash fosters a personal grudge against the Empire. Dash’s family owned a company called the RenTrans Fleet. One day his brother, Stanton, encountered engine problems and ended up crashing into Emperor Palpatine’s personal museum. The crash killed Stanton. Emperor Palpatine was enraged that his stuff had been destroyed and as a result banished the Rendar family and transferred all of their holdings to Prince Xizor.

Dash began focusing on his smuggling career, even smuggling goods to Alliance strongholds like Hoth. Dash even participated in the battle on Hoth, flying one of the snowspeeders until the escape ships were safely away.

MOS EISLEY CANTINA

Here are just a few of the patron’s at the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine…

Kabe

Kabe was taken from her home world as a child and sold into slavery. Shortly after, however, she was abandoned on the planet Tatooine.

Lost and alone, Kabe ran into Muftak. Muftak eventually became her best friend and her protector. They also became partners in crime. While Muftak provided the muscle, Kabe brought home the credits (money) through thievery and pick pocketing.

One night Kabe and Muftak decided to break into Jabba the Hutt’s townhouse in Tatooine. Their plan was to run in, grab whatever they could carry, and run out again. However, once they got into the townhouse, they ran into an injured Rebel Soldier who offered them huge credits to run a courier mission for him. The pair agreed and ended up $30,000 richer. With the money, they purchased a ship and were able to leave Tatooine and go on many adventures together.

Muftak

Muftak’s story is an interesting one. Muftak’s cocoon was accidentally loaded onto an Imperial Freighter and dropped off on the desert world of Tatooine. When Muftak awoke from this cocoon he had no idea where he was or who he was. Not only did he have no friends or family, but he also did not know another of his species.

Muftak grew up on Tatooine without ever running into another of his species. He did however, have a friendly nature which enabled him to quickly make friends. Also, his sheer size and strength helped to keep him alive in the violent city port of Mos Eisley’s.

Muftak ran into Kabe and the two quickly became live long friends.

Ponda Baba

Ponda Baba is a bad tempered pirate and smuggler. Ponda teamed up with the mentally unstable and homicidal Dr. Evazan after saving his life in the Corellian system.

Together, Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan, became smugglers. They shipped illegal spice for Jabba the Hutt. Their smuggling brought them to the desert world of Tatooine, where Ponda Baba picked the wrong fight! Ponda Baba is seen in the Cantina Scene where Obi-Wan Kenobi uses his lightsaber to cleave off Ponda’s arm.

Ponda Baba survived the incident and left Tatooine with Dr. Evazan. Dr. Evazan had created a machine to transfer the conscious mind of one individual into that of another. It is rumoured that Dr. Evazan used this technology to transfer Ponda Baba’s mind into that of an Andoan Senator.

Dr. Evazan

Dr. Evazan was once a promising young surgeon until his genius turned to madness. Dr. Evazan applied to the Imperial Academy, however, they sensed his madness and had him institutionalized on a prison planet. The doctor quickly escaped and bought a forged medical license. With this license he began his unethical medical practices that eventually lead to the posting of a bounty in the amount of 1 million credits on his head.

The bounty hunter Joda Kast tracked Dr. Evazan down to his surgery clinic the “Cutting Edge”. He chased the insane doctor and actually shot him in the face (the scars are visible in the photo below) causing permanent disfigurement. However, before Jodo Kast could collect the bounty, Dr. Evazan was rescued by Ponda Baba.

Dr. Evazan continued in his insane / unethical medical practices, his current whereabouts are unknown. Although there are numerous high bounties on his head.

Momaw Nadon

Momaw Nadon is a quiet scholar who dedicates his life towards his people’s natural religion, known as Mother Jungle.

The Imperial Star Destroyer Conquest made orbit around his home planet and demanded to know the secrets of his people and their affiliation with nature. Rather than have his planet destroyed, Momaw Nadon divulged the secrets of his people’s connection with nature. As a result he was excommunicated by his people.

Momaw Nadon moved to Mos Eisley where he bought a large house. In his house he began to raise many exotic plants from many different worlds. His home also served as a safe place for Rebel Troops.

Shortly after Return of the Jedi, Momaw Nadon was accepted back by his people. He was finally reunited with his wife and children.

VALLEY OF THE JEDI

The Valley of the Jedi is the fabled battleground between the ancient Jedi and Sith. The Valley is the focal point of tremendous energy that, if exploited, could turn the tide in the present battle between light and dark.

Here are some of the characters vying for control of the Valley of the Jedi…

Dark Jedi Jerec

Jerec is a Dark Jedi of tremendous power; power that even rivals Darth Vader’s. He has a huge lust for power and his ambition takes him on a journey to find the Valley of the Jedi.

Jerec is physically blind (he literally has no eyes) and he wears a thin mask similar to a blindfold. He also has tattoos flowing from his mouth.
Jerec’s henchmen include: Gorc, Pic, Maw, Sariss, Boc and Yun.

Boc

Boc is a very fast and gifted warrior. He expertly uses two lightsabers to dispatch his enemies. He is a joker, loud and playful, with a great sense of humour. He also likes to torment his victims, teasing them if he believes he has the upper hand in battle.

Sariss
Sariss is one of the most powerful dark Jedi’s in Jerec’s crew. She is quiet and ruthless in her ways. Sariss has very strong force abilities in both physical and mental powers.

Maw

Under normal conditions a creature like Maw could not exist. However, due to his extreme anger and abilities with the dark side of the force, Maw is a deadly opponent. Maw was literally cut in half! However due to his powers (and some surgery), Maw exists as a warrior in Jerec’s crew.

Yun

Yun is both inexperienced and unpredictable. He has an insatiable desire to prove himself. Yun is a talented young Dark Jedi, who is capable of using powers from both sides of the force.

Gorc and Pic

Gorc and Pic claim to be brothers, although they clearly are not. Gorc is twice the size of Pic. Gorc is tall, quiet and powerful. Pic is short, lively, and completely evil. In battle they work as a team, each covering the others weaknesses.

Kyle Katarn

Kyle Katarn is a man on a mission. After the death of his father (his father was killed by Jerec), Kyle discovered pieces of a secret map that his father had been hiding. When put together this map contained the location to the Valley of the Jedi. Kyle knew that this must never fall into the hands of the Empire.

One by one, Kyle defeated Jerec’s crew of Dark Jedi’s. Then, deep in the Valley of the Jedi, Kyle confronted Jerec. They battled for a long time before Kyle finally bested Jerec.

With Jerec dead, an ancient prophecy had been fulfilled. The spirits of the deceased Jedi who were trapped in the Valley of the Jedi were freed. Thus, the power that was contained in the Valley of the Jedi, was no more.

Kyle Katarn went on to join the Rebellion in their struggle against the Empire.

GEONOSIS

Here are some of the creatures that call Geonosis home…

Geonosian’s

Geonosian’s are an insectoid species native to the harsh world of Geonosis. They have a hard exoskeleton, elongated faces, and multi-jointed limbs. They speak in language made up of multiple clicks.

There are two distinct species: the wingless drones that serve as general laborers; and the winged aristocrats, which include the royal warriors.

Geonosian’s use their droid foundries to build immense armies for beings wealthy enough to afford them. They have done business with both the Trade Federation and the Techno Union.

For entertainment, the Geonosian’s congregate in a massive executive arena to watch victims face off with savage creatures.

Acklay
The vicious Acklay was one of the creatures seen in the executive arena. It is native to the planet Geonosis.

NABOO

Here are some of the creatures who live in the swamps and oceans of Naboo…

Gungan’s

The Gungan’s are the native inhabitants of the planet. They are an amphibious species who have a large lung capacity that enables them to hold their breath for long periods of time. Gungan’s are equally comfortable above and below water.

Most people dismiss the Gungan’s as being primitives; however, they do have advanced technology which they use for their buildings, vehicles, technology, and weapons. The power source for their technology is mined in the depths of the oceans. They use hydrostatic fields to create the large bubbles that serve as their homes and meeting places. This is also used as their “force-fields” when they are in battle.

Gungan’s also use Kaadu’s, Falumpaset’s, and Fambaa’s etc… as beasts of burden and for transportation.

Kaadu

The Kaadu are swift footed wingless avians with strong legs and smooth bodies. They have duck-like snouts and multi-coloured skin.

During times of peace, Kaadu are used as patrol animals. However, in times of battle, Gungans use the Kaadu’s like horses, carrying them swiftly into battle.

Falumpaset

The Falumpaset’s are large beasts with touch skin and hardy builds. They are typically seen in the swamps and forests of Naboo.

During times of battle, the Gungan’s use Falumpaset’s as beast of burden. They haul the giant battle wagons and catapults for the Gungan Grand Army.

Colo Claw Fish

The Colo Claw Fish are immense underwater predators that dwell in the numerous caverns in the core of the planet.

They have a natural phosphorescent hide, flattened bodies, large snouts, and hooked grasping claws.

Sando Aqua Monster

The Sando is a fearsome leviathan who lives in the waters of Naboo.

It has a huge appetite, muscled body, finned claws, and a rather feline appearance. It is so large that it can swallow almost all of the other sea life (and even Gungan Sub’s) in a single gulp.

THE BOUNTY HUNTERS

Here are the Bounty Hunters. These are the most ruthless and fearsome beings in the Star Wars Universe. They are also my favourites!! I love all the Bounty Hunters, especially Boba Fett…

Boba Fett

Boba Fett is a legendary bounty hunter, who accepts warrants from the Empire, the Rebellion, and Criminal Underworld. His distinctive Mandalorian armour strikes fear into the hearts of fugitives everywhere. Boba Fett is the most fearless and ruthless of all the bounty hunters.

Boba Fett has faced off which characters such as Prince Xizor, Han Solo, and even Darth Vader. In the comic book “Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire” Boba Fett had a chance to destroyed Darth Vader, but instead chose to let him live.

In Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett is seen falling into the mighty Sarlacc. Many believed that this was the end of the popular bounty hunter. However, after falling into the Sarlacc, Boba Fett used a thermal detonator! Blowing up the Sarlacc from within! Boba Fett managed to crawl to the surface of Tatooine and, with the help of fellow bounty hunter Dengar, he survived. This was not the end of Boba Fett’s career; he continued to be a bounty hunter for years to come.

Dengar

Dengar, also known as Payback, is a successful bounty hunter. Unlike other bounty hunters, personal vendettas played a huge role in his career as a bounty hunter.

Dengar was once a swoop-racer until a competition with Han Solo cut short his career. Dengar crashed his vehicle into Han Solo’s. While Han survived without injury, Dengar experienced debilitating cranial trauma from the accident. After the accident, Dengar was operated on by the Empire – transforming him into a remorseless killing machine. The Empire removed all emotion from Dengar, with the exception of hatred and vengeance.

On one of his missions he ran into an Aruzan woman named Manaroo. Manaroo was able to bring back his long lost feelings and eventually the two fell in love.

Shortly after Jabba the Hutt’s death, Dengar found Boba Fett in the sands of Tatooine. After Boba’s recovery the two of them formed a partnership that lasted many years. In fact, Boba Fett even acted as best man at Dengar and Manaroo’s wedding.

IG-88

IG-88, project name Phlutdroid, was created by scientists in the Holowan Laboratories. IG-88 was to be the newest line of combat droid. However, shortly after activation, IG-88 achieved sentience. He slaughtered the Holowan scientists and copied himself into three duplicate droids. These droids were designated IG-88B, IG-88C, and IG-88D. Together with the new droids, IG-88 went on to be an assassin and bounty hunter who vision included galactic domination.

IG-88B became a bounty hunter who had a “dismantle on site” warrant in over 40 systems. IG-88B followed Boba Fett to Cloud City in pursuit of Han Solo. IG-88B attacked Boba Fett in Cloud City, however Boba got the drop on IG-88B, blowing him to pieces. If you look carefully at the scene where Chewbacca rescue’s the dismantled C3PO from the smelting plant, you can see IG-88B’s mechanical head next to the smelting machine.

IG-88C also followed Boba Fett to Cloud City. However, he chose to face off with Fett before landing. Fett managed to outmanoeuvre IG-88C and shoot his ship, destroying it and IG-88C.

IG-88D was reportedly destroyed by Dash Rendar on Ord Mantell. This however is just rumor.

The original IG-88 (or IG-88A) took over an immense droid factory on Mechis III and began to secretly reprogram every droid to obey his every order. This was in an effort to ensure that he had an immense army when he launched his uprising. IG-88A, in an ultimate attempt at galactic domination, downloaded his computer brain into the battle station computer core of the second Death Star. However, when the rebel forces destroyed the Death Star, they also destroyed IG-88A with it.

Bossk

Bossk is a Trandoshan bounty hunter. Trandoshan’s are a species of hunters. In their religion, they are rewarded in their afterlife according to the number of successful hunts they have led.

Trandoshan’s are gifted with the ability to regenerate lost limbs. They are a very strong and blood thirsty race. The Trandoshan’s often hunt Wookies for sport alone.

Bossk is the son of Cradossk, the respected hunter and leader of the mighty Bounty Hunters Guild. Bossk eventually took over the Bounty Hunters Guild (by killing his own father), however the Guild splintered into two factions: Bossk’s Guild Reform Committee and the True Guild (led by those loyal to the deceased Cradossk).

After the collapse of the Guild, Bossk worked freelance for a while, doing odd jobs with fellow hunters like Zuckuss and 4-LOM.

Zuckuss

Zuckuss is a bounty hunter with keen intuition. He practices his people’s ancient traditions of intuitive tracking. This has come in handy in his career as a bounty hunter.

During his employment with Jabba the Hutt, Zuckuss was teamed with the droid bounty hunter 4-LOM. Together they became a formidable team.

Zuckuss and 4-LOM achieved notoriety when they tracked down and captured Imperial Sector Governor Nardix for the Rebellion. Shortly after that, the team joined the Rebellion. This, however, did not last long. The pair quickly returned to their bounty hunter trade.

4-LOM

4-LOM was originally created to serve as a cabin steward aboard luxury liners. Programming errors lead to unexpected behaviour problems with the droid. 4-LOM began to seek challenge in stealing valuables from various passengers.

The droids thievery escalated and eventually grabbed the attention of Jabba the Hutt. Jabba had 4-LOM modified with a combat computer system and gave him the capability to harm other beings.

4-LOM later formed a partnership with the bounty hunter Zuckuss. Together they became a formidable team. During Return of the Jedi, Zuckuss and 4-LOM joined the Rebellion. This however did not last long, and they eventually returned to their bounty hunter trade.

SPACE CREATURES

Here are some creatures that live in space! On the sides of ships or in asteroid belts...

Mynocks

The parasitic, leathery-winged Mynocks are a common annoyance to many ship captains. The Mynocks attach themselves to starships via their suction-cup mouths and once attached, they chew on the ships power cables.

Mynocks travel in packs and grow to be approximately 1.6 meters long, with a wingspan of just over 1 meter.

Space Slug

Space Slugs are huge worm-like creatures that live within asteroids and airless planetoids. Their silcon-biology allows them to exist in the vacuum of space.

Space Slugs can grow to be as large as 800 meters! Although the typical Space Slugs are on average only 10 meters in length. Several of the huge Space Slugs are known to exist in the Hoth Asteroid Belt.

Kudar Mubat

Kudar Mubat is a huge spider-like creature. He lives in a spider web in space. This web has parts of space ships integrated into it.

Kudar Mubat is a go-between for Bounty Hunters and clients. A client will pay Kudar Mubat to recruit a Bounty Hunter for them. Mubat will take payment and schedule a meeting with the Bounty Hunter. Upon successful completion of the mission, Mubat will take possession of the bounty and pay the Bounty Hunter for his services (minus his own "go-between" fee). Mubat then arranges to have the client pick up the bounty they paid for.

If anyone has a picture of Kudar Mubat, or knows where I can find one, please let me know. Thank you!

HOTH

Here are just a few of the creatures who live on the ice planet Hoth...

Wampa

The Wampa Ice Creature stands over 2 meters in height and is a deadly, stealthy predator. It's snowy white fur provides perfect camouflage. The Wampa uses its tremendous strength to snap the neck of its prey.

Wampa's live in caves carved within the Hoth ice. Wampa's suspend their victims from the icy cave ceiling until they are ready to eat.

Rebel troops were plagued by Wampa attacks during the construction of their hidden Hoth base. The Wampa's attacked numerous rebels and tauntaun's before the base's construction was finished.

Tauntaun

Tauntaun's are a species of snow lizard that freely roam the snowy planet of Hoth.

The Rebel troops managed to domesticate the Tauntaun's and use them for patrol duties outside of the base. Tauntaun's became extremely useful as the Rebels had difficulties adapting their repulsorlift speeders to the freezing Hoth climate.

TATOOINE

Here are some of the inhabitants of the planet Tatooine...

Tusken Raiders (aka Sand People)

The Tusken Raiders are fearsome desert savages who live in the Jundland Wastes of Tatooine. They are extremely territorial and will attack without provocation.

These nomads are clad in tattered robes from head to toe. They carry deadly bladed clubs known as gaderffii. The females are recognizable because of their elaborate jewel-encrusted masks. Tusken children wear simple cloaks.

Tusken Raider have managed to domesticate Bantha's. Whom they use for transportation.

Bantha

Bantha's are very large furry animals with bright eyes. The males are distiguishable by their long spiraling horns.

On the desert world of Tatooine, Bantha's are used as transportation for the savage Tusken Raiders. As well as beasts of burden by the Tatooine Moisture Farmers.

Sarlacc

The Sarlacc is a huge immobile beast. It lives underneath the desert sands in Tatooine's Dune Sea, at the base of the Great Pit of Carkoon. The Sarlacc is almost completely concealed, with only its mouth and tentacles extending from the surface.

Due to its isolation, the Sarlacc rarely feeds. It relys mostly on animals that are unfortunate enough to stumble into the pit. According to rumor, the Sarlacc is able to keep its victims alive for thousands of years, while it slowly digests them. The victim is kept alive and conscious.

The Sarlacc was an amusement to Jabba the Hutt, who would eliminate his enemies by feeding them to the Sarlacc. Shortly after Return of the Jedi, the Sarlacc was killed by Boba Fett (who is seen falling into the Sarlacc Pit during the sail barge scene).

FIRST POST: INTRODUCTION

I have been a huge Star Wars fan ever since I was a child. In fact, I still have several of my childhood Star Wars collectibles. I can probably repeat every single line in every single movie from heart.

This Blog is dedicated to the aliens and creatures of the Star Wars universe. These are not your main characters! You will not find Han Solo, Luke Skywalker or Obi-Wan on this Blog. Instead, I decided to focus on the characters that do not have huge roles. These are the characters in the books, comics, and video games. Some of these characters, however, you have probably seen in the background, or for short periods in the movies (i.e. Tusken Raiders).

I chose to do a Blog because I liked the way it was set up. I like the idea that it is similar to a journal or a diary; where you can go in anytime you want and add new postings and new pictures. I looked at all of the options and decided that the Blog would be the best platform to present the information I wanted to share.

The only problem that I have encountered so far has been minor formatting issues. I had typed the text for one of my posts, however, upon “publishing” the post all of the line spacing had disappeared. I had to go in and retype it a couple of times before it would work the way I wanted it to.

I will be further updating this site over the next few days; so please check back frequently.

Thank you!

Jennifer
